"To do great things is difficult; but to command
great things is more difficult."

Organization Tip:
Question: We want to help our associates understand
what it means when someone refers to an individual as having “Professional Presence”.
Answer: Presence can be very subjective. However,
it’s a critical part of success in today’s business environment. The three elements that are usually brought up
regarding presence are appearance, communication and behavioral skills. These factors create a chemistry that consistently
connects that person to an audience. Note that the important words are chemistry and audience.
Tip For Men:
Question: I have been told that my body language
does not promote confidence.
Answer: Some things for you to consider are: stand
up straight, not stooped or listing to one side; maintain good eye contact meaning that you are looking at the
person you are speaking with and do not fidget or sway your body.
Tip For Women:
Question: How can I be viewed as having presence
when I am one of two women members of a predominately male leadership team?
Answer: Communicating with leaders in a team meeting
setting is critical to being considered a contributing member. Know when to speak and make sure you add to the
conversation. Robert W. Selander, retiring Chairman of MasterCard, is quoted in the NY Times as saying, “Presence
is knowing what to communicate, and how.”
